5. Gattefosse launch mineral extract at in-cosmetics
Gattefossé uses in-cosmetics as a platform to launch Oli’vîne, a precious stone extract to join its mineral matters range.
The mineral Olivine is a magnesium iron silicate with an olive green colour.
According to the France-based ingredients supplier, the magnesium contained in the rock can be extracted to make a magnesium rich complex, the Oli’vîne extract, bioavailable to the skin.
Increase cellular energy
The extract can help increase cellular energy levels and help skin cells to fight against stress, the company claims.
The extract joins four other mineral matters actives: Hema’tîte, Mala’ktîte, Zin’Cîte and Rhodo’lîte.
All the extracts in the range, including the new addition, are water soluble liquids and contain bioavailable mineral complexes, claimed the company.
This liquid and bioavailable nature of the extracts are what set the range apart from competitors whose offerings are non soluble powders, explained the company.
Minerals for men, gems for girls
Formulators can highlight the mineral aspect of the extract in an attempt to appeal to the male market, or underline Olivine’s use as a precious stone if a touch of glamour is needed, suggested Gattefossé.
The company will also be launching a new original lemon extract that can replace water in many cosmetics formulations, as well as an active texture agent, at the up coming show in Munich.

Digital Forensics
What is Digital Forensics?
Traditionally in the physical world, mother nature captures and preserves many useful evidence about human interactions and business activities. These evidential data in the physical world provide important clues and hints for the investigators and forensic scientists to discover what actually happened in the past if disputes or disagreements aroused between the concerned parties. Over decades, the traditional forensic science evolved with many well-established tools and techniques to investigate “what happened” and collect useful scientific evidence to support or reject the hypothesis, i.e. fingerprint, DNA, C-14, pathology, handwriting comparison, watermark, ballistic examination, etc.
Today, with the wide use of Information Technology (IT) in our society, many vital data and information have been digitized. They are either stored or “left behind as digital footprints/trail” in the computers and/or electronic storage media with very important financial and evidential values to support or disprove criminal and civil allegations among different e-Business stakeholders.(6:35)
Digital Forensic is the scientific methodology in identifying, searching, preserving, recovering and analyzing digital evidence from computers and computer/electronic storage media, and presenting the findings which meet the standards required by the Court of Law.
Why is Digital Forensic Engineering important to our Business Community?
The mainstream of knowledge and experience in forensic science today mainly comes from the natural science discipline, i.e. medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, etc., which assists the Court in ruling by finding out the facts and evaluating the arguments put forwarded by the legal representatives from both disputed parties. With the proliferation of IT and digital properties, traditional forensic scientists lack the knowledge and skills to handle “digital evidence/assets” and conduct “digital” for e-Commerce and IPR (Intellectual Property Right) related cases.
Without the Digital Forensic engineer/experts, the Court has great difficulties in dealing with e-Business and IT related disputes, i.e. damage or infringement to digital assets, cyber crimes, forged e-contract/signature, cyber money laundering/on-line banking fraud, IPR infringement and litigations, etc.
As such, the establishment of the digital forensic science discipline and a Digital Forensic Research Lab is paramount for Hong Kong to sustain her competitiveness as the leading Information and Financial hub in Asia among other neighbouring cities. Hong Kong, as an e-Finance and Commerce Center, needs a comprehensive legal-IT infrastructure for greater public trust and confidence locally and globally. Yet, the legal infrastructure/Court needs digital forensic engineering/experts to ensure the validity and authenticity of the “digital facts/evidence/assets” when being presented in Court before the ruling and sentencing are to be awarded in all IT-related cases.
Information and Finance Hub/Center of Excellence
It is important to set up the Asia’s leading Digital Forensic Lab (DFL) in HKUST. The DFL should be a model lab/show case for world-wide forensic science services related to e-business and digital asset litigations, and develop peer-to-peer accreditation with similar labs in UK, Europe, Canada and USA. HKUST can help others in Asia to set up their DFLs for international certification.
The Digital Forensic Lab (DFL) in HKUST will provide research, development and professional services in the following areas to strengthen Hong Kong’s IT-legal infrastructure and strategic position as one of the leading finance and business centers in the world:-
