The competition among supermarkets is increasingly fierce since China’s accession to the WTO, as a result of the putting up roots of foreign supermarket chains in the Chinese market as well as the springing up of domestic supermarket chains. The supermarket enterprises are transferring their attention into the inner administration, as the operation mode among supermarkets and even the market operation mode are getting more and more homogeneous. Therefore, the inventory management, an important aspect in supermarket management, is becoming the key to win in the competition. Thus, the subject is for every enterprise to consider how to upgrade the overall level of inventory management, and consequently increase the competitive strength of the enterprise. Reflecting and doing research on the subject, the thesis tries to integrate the inventory management theory with its practical application and make comprehensive analysis and investigation on the subject through the case study of Da Qi Store of Shanghai Da Run Fa Limited Company. In this process, discarding the research ideology keen on establishing mathematical models and emphasizing inventory control management optimization, the thesis concludes that, as a multifactorial subject and a comprehensive systematic programme, the issue of inventory management needs to be comprehensively considered and studied from the perspective of the supermarket management.
