The presentation of beam uniformity can take several forms.
the most common is a simple false color representation of the
distribution of energy in the beam. Figure 3 shows show a
presentation in black and white, output from a LaserJet printer
at 300 dpi. A corresponding color image is possible from the systems is the ability to expand the dynamic range of the
camera and computer. Most cameras have a dynamic range of
about one part in 200. Similarly an 8 bit frame grabber is
limited to one part in 256. This is seldom sufficient for
image analysis. Therefore we let the user easy expand the
dynamic range of the system to examine a particular region of
the image at the full one part in 256 resolution of the
computer, regardless of the rest of the image intensity. The
result of this "contrast_plot" routine is a dramatic
enhancement of the image uniformity presentation.
