山庄整体布局巧用地形，因山就势，分区明确，景色丰富，与其它园林相比，有其独特的风格。山庄宫殿区布局严谨，建筑朴素，苑景区自然野趣，宫殿与天然景观和谐地融为一体，达到了回归自然的境界。山庄融南北建筑艺术精华，园内建筑规模不大，殿宇和围墙多采用青砖灰瓦、原木本色，淡雅庄重，简朴适度，与京城的故宫，黄瓦红墙，描金彩绘，堂皇耀目呈明显对照。山庄的建筑既具有南方园林的风格、结构和工程做法，又多沿袭北方常用的手法，成为南北建筑艺术完美结合的典范。避暑山庄不同于其它的皇家园林，它继承和发展了中国古典园林“以人为之美入自然，符合自然而又超越自然”的传统造园思想，按照地形地貌特征进行选址和总体设计，完全借助于自然地势，因山就水，顺其自然，同时融南北造园艺术的精华于一身。它是中国园林史上一个辉煌的里程碑，是中国古典园林艺术的杰作，享有“中国地理形貌之缩影”和“中国古典园林之最高范例”的盛誉。 |

The overall layout of The Summer Resort cleverly takes advantage of the mountainous terrain. The resort, clearly divided, is rich in sceneries and has a unique style compared with other gardens. In the Palace Area, Simple architectures are orderly laid out, while the Garden Area retains the charms of nature. The harmonious integration of the palace and the landscape brings visitors back to nature. The resort has absorbed the quintessence of both northern and southern architectural art. The inner constructions are not large in scale. The palaces and the surrounding walls are mostly built with black bricks, grey tiles, and unpainted timber, creating a mood of elegance, solemnity, artlessness and moderation, in distinct contrast to the magnificence of the Imperial Palace in Beijing, which dazzles with its yellow tiles, vermilion walls, gilded paintings and colored drawings. Adopting the style, structure and engineering methods of the southern gardens, meanwhile following the common practices of the north, the architectures of the resort have become an epitome of the perfect combination of the two different architectural arts. Unlike other imperial gardens, Chengde Mountain Resort inherits and develops the traditional idea of constructing Chinese classical gardens—the artificial beauty should be integrated with, accord with and surpass the natural beauty. Besides, it is selected and designed based on the specific terrain, totally playing upon the natural environment, making full use of mountains and waters and meanwhile absorbs the essence of northern and southern gardening art. It is a magnificent milestone and a masterpiece in the history of Chinese gardens, and it enjoys a high reputation of “the epitome of Chinese terrain” as well as “the best example of classic Chinese gardens”. |

Competition Procedure
The competition consists of a competition round and the final in which the best five competitors will play their set pieces once again. All candidates should take part with their own orchestra wherever possible. There will be 30 soloists of the INTERMUSICA orchestra available to soloists not accompanied by their own orchestra. Every candidate will have the opportunity to rehearse twice with the accompanying orchestra in Birkfeld—once in a 50-minute rehearsal between 29.9. and 2.10. and second in a 15-minute rehearsal on the day of competition.
If more than 30 soloists apply for accompaniment form the INTERMUSICA Orchestra, allocation will be decided by the jury. The documents and materials submitted with the registration form (CV, recording) will serve as criteria for the jury's decision.
