October 25, 2012 is the fifth birthday of the New Film Festival. According to Mr. Wen Wu, this year can be regarded as the festival’s first year of postgraduate school. And it will take about 4 to 5 years for her to get a doctor’s degree and become truly mature.
Since 2008, the Festival has been growing gradually with the help of different institutions, and its subject units have gained variety. This year will continue with the “screening of new-come directors’ works” as the festival’s core unit, meanwhile units of “Almodovar- review of the master”, “Angers-Night of European Newcomers”, “Cannes Critic's Week Section”, and “Cinéastes de notre Temps(filmmakers in our age)”will also enhance each other. As the only competition, “micro-movie contest section” has collected over 170 short films around the world to take part in the unit. It’s our great honor to invite director Zhang Jiarui as the chairman of the competition jury, and the famous actress Tao Hong, the noted actor Wang Hongwei, as well as the well-known director and cinematographer Liu Yonghong as the judges.
