I am unable to call to mind （It never occurs to me）that any of my acquaintances doesn’t have a mobile phone (is free from the possession of a cell phone), for, if any, it is strange/surprising nowadays and needs explaining. All our social connections (relations) are stored in (the phone book of) our cell phone and can be (taken out to use) used at any time. Such kind of magic gadget in the ancient times was an exclusive possession to a wizard. (Only a wizard possessed exclusively such kind of magic gadget in the ancient times.)
Cell phone has altered/changed the interpersonal relations. It is usually seen that a note is on the door to (at the entrance of) a conference room, reading “Please keep your phone off during the meeting.” However, the room still resounds with rings (rings still resound across the room). Actually, we are all ordinary people and rarely have something important to do; however we are still reluctant to turn off the phone, for keeping the phone on symbolizes our touch (connection) with the world. In addition, the prevalence of using (rampant use of ) cell phone today reflects our “thirst for socialization”. (= for keeping the phone on symbolizes our touch (connection) with the world and reflects our “thirst for socialization”.) Therefore, it is a common scene (it is commonly seen) that a person, all of a sudden, stops his/her steps to edit short message with his/her eyes fixed on the phone screen, disregarding his/her location (where he/she is), whether on the road center or beside a toilet (by a restroom). Why （The reason） we care so much about the coming calls and short messages is that we are eager to keep close to (connection/touch with) the society.
