1. PURPOSE
1.1 This fabrication and erection specification defines the details of construction of test stations required on metallic underground pipelines to permit corrosion survey and cathodic protection system performance tests.

2.1 This specification applies to test stations for all metallic, underground pipeline installations.

4. TEST STATION INSTALLATION
4.1 The location, type, and mounting of test stations required on a pipeline are shown on the construction drawings. See Figure 10 for standard installation.
4.2 Test station Types 1 through 9 for post or vent pipe mounting shall be as specified in 670.810 Appendix A Each test station must be specified to have the Air Products logo on the cover (see Figure 10 for post or vent pipe mounting details).
4.3 Test station Types 1 through 9 for ground box installation shall be as specified in 670.810 Appendix A. Contractor shall firmly attach a brass tag to the cover of the ground box. The brass tag shall have Air Products stamped on it (see Detail B on Figure 13 for details of wiring and layout).
4.4 In locations where extra protection is deemed necessary (e.g., from mowers, automobiles) a welded steel protective structure shall be constructed as specified in Figure 17
4.5 All pipelines or pipeline segments that are isolated from other cathodic protection shall be designed to have a minimum of two Test Stations, equipped with a minimum of two 32# magnesium anodes each.
5. THERMITE WELDING PROCEDURE (FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION)
5.1 See Figure 14 for details of attaching and coating copper wire to pipe.
5.2 Test leads shall not be attached at major pipe stress locations, such as bends or welds.
5.3 Thermite charge shall be Cadweld ® CA15, Type F-33, as manufactured by Erico Products, Inc., or equal.
